International law firm Integrites advises Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) in relation to European Environmental Law.
Under the project’s framework, ILF Integrites acts as a legal adviser to UIA, Ukraine’s leading airline, on legal regulation of acquisition of carbon dioxide emissions quotas for the aircraft flying to and from the EU. In particular, the team of ILF Integrites’ lawyers advise the client on quota buying procedures, opening accounts in the EU's special registries of CO2 quotas; requirements and standards the purchased quotas should meet, risks and charges for flights over the territory of the EU without a corresponding number of allowances. Legal support for the client was successfully provided despite the lack of established practices regarding "aviation quotas" purchasing procedures.
As a result of comprehensive legal support, UIA, under the existing regulations, has the right to run operations on purchase and sale of quotas, as well as to avoid the risks and charges for the flights over the territory of the EU without corresponding quotas. Besides the legal advice of ILF Integrites allowed UIA to meet all the requirements of EU legislation on opening of accounts in a special registry of CO2 quotas.
Integrites’ team was led by Oleksandr Aleksyeyenko, partner, and included Yevgen Blok and Svetlana Berezhna, associates.
