International Dispute Resolution Forum took place on 29-30 April 2014 in Holiday Inn Hotel in Almaty. Organizer of the Forum was Corporate communications agency VIProMotion.
The main purpose of the Forum was to bring local and foreign lawyers, experts and representatives of arbitration courts and discuss the specifics of commercial disputes in various countries: Kazakhstan, Russia, Great Britain, Sweden.
The following key topics were discussed within the framework of the Forum: choice of place for resolving disputes, settlement of disputes in arbitration in Europe, peculiarities of resolving some types of the international disputes, prospects of improvement of legislation in the field of international arbitration, international and domestic commercial arbitration in Kazakhstan, enforcement of foreign court judgments and arbitration awards in the CIS, practical aspects of commercial dispute resolution.
The Forum was attended by heads of legal departments, in-house lawyers, legal counsels, representatives of law and consultancy firms, arbitrators and experts specializing in international dispute resolution.
Roman Zykov, General Secretary of the Russian Arbitration Association, whose main aim is to assist in the development of arbitration and international commercial arbitration in Russia and the CIS, visited the Forum as one of the key speakers.
He shared information about innovations of Russian legislation on commercial arbitration and the arbitration courts, which may be relevant for Kazakhstan in the near future.
Svetlana Shtopol, Partner of International Law Firm Integrites, participated as a moderator of the section “Practical aspects of commercial disputes proceedings in Kazakhstan”, and as a speaker on the topics “Parties' agreement to exclude challenges to an award (exclusion agreement)” and “Separate arbitration awards".
The audience actively participated in the discussions and shared practical experience. Overall, participants were satisfied with the organization of the Forum and the results obtained.
