Olena Perepelynska participated in Prague Rules v. IBA Rules Oxford-style debate within the ABA Section of International Law Annual Conference in Washington DC

On April 10, Olena Perepelynska, Partner and Head of CIS Arbitration practice at INTEGRITES, participated in an Oxford-style debate “Prague Rules v. IBA Rules: Prague Rules on the Efficient Conduct of Proceedings Mark the End of the Era of ‘Americanization’ of international Arbitration?” held within the ABA Section of International Law Annual Conference 2019 in Washington DC.

This panel featured a debate between two teams of arbitration practitioners who took the roles of proponents and opponents of the Prague Rules and battled to win the support of the audience for their position.

Olena as a member of the Prague Rules Working Group spoke in support of the Prague Rules and told about the Prague Rules drafting history, describing their main features and key advantages, such as cost- and time-efficient approach. The Prague Rules were officially launched in December 2018 and have recently received the GAR Award for The Best Innovation in International Arbitration in 2018.

As a result of the debate, the overwhelming majority of the participants agreed that that the Prague Rules provide a viable option in reducing the time and costs of international arbitration.
