On May 23, Olena Perepelynska, Partner and Head of CIS Arbitration practice at INTEGRITES and President of the Ukrainian Arbitration Association, spoke at the “Arbitration and Mediation in Russia and the CIS” event in London, organized by the Chartered Institute of Arbitrator.
The seminar was devoted to developments in the use of arbitration and mediation in the resolution of international commercial disputes from speakers’ respective jurisdictional perspectives.
Olena Perepelynska told about recent developments in Arbitration and Mediation in Ukraine, including major changes of arbitration reform 2017. These include a streamlined process for court control over and assistance to arbitration, a presumption in favour of the validity of an arbitration agreement, new arbitrability rules and update to the Law of Ukraine on International Commercial Arbitration.
During the event, Olena Perepelynska also highlighted a number of new tools for judicial support to arbitration and talked about improvement of judicial control over arbitration. In her presentation, Olena Perepelynska gave some statistics regarding enforcement and setting aside of the arbitral awards in Ukraine, confirming a pro-arbitration approach of the Ukrainian courts in arbitration-related matters. .
